Why Preparation Matters for Sugaring
Getting your skin ready for a sugaring session is more important than you might think! Proper prep not only makes the treatment more effective but also helps keep things as comfy as possible while lowering the chances of irritation. Since sugaring removes hair from the root, how you care for your skin beforehand can make all the difference in how smooth and happy you feel afterward.

Pre-Sugaring Prep Checklist
Whether it’s your first time or you’re a regular, here are some must-follow steps to get your skin ready for your sugaring session:
1) Hair Length Matters
If it’s your first time sugaring, you’ll want to make sure your hair is long enough—about 1/2 inch or roughly the size of a grain of rice. This length is perfect for the sugar paste to grab onto the hair and do its job, leaving your skin as smooth as possible.
If you’ve been shaving, it’s even better to let your hair grow out longer before your appointment, as this allows for more effective removal. But, if you are already someone who regularly waxes or sugars instead of shaving, your hair typically regrows finer and softer, meaning you may only need half the time to reach the ideal length.
2) Clean, Dry Skin is Key
Before your appointment, make sure the area to be sugared is clean and completely dry. Avoid using lotions, oils, deodorant, or any skincare products on that part of your skin. These can make it harder for the sugar paste to stick properly. For best results, keep things simple and skip your regular skincare routine for the treated area on appointment day.
3) Avoid the Sun
Say no to tanning before your session! Avoid the sun and tanning beds for at least 24 hours prior to your appointment. Sunburned or sensitive skin cannot be sugared, so keep your skin protected beforehand.
4) Exfoliate, But Not Too Close
While exfoliating is great for removing dead skin cells, timing is everything. Do not exfoliate the day before, the day of, or the day after your appointment. Doing so can make your skin more prone to irritation.
5) Minimize Discomfort
If you’re sensitive to pain, consider taking an over-the-counter pain reliever about 30 minutes before your appointment. This can help ease any discomfort and keep you relaxed during the process.
6) Be Mindful of Certain Skincare Products
If you’re using skincare products like Retinol, Lactic Acid, Glycolic Acid, or products with high percentages of AHA or BHA, discontinue use on the area to be sugared at least one week before your appointment. These products can make the skin more sensitive and prone to irritation.
7) Accutane Alert
If you’re currently on Accutane or have used it (or similar acne medications) in the last 12 months, please give us a call before booking. These medications can make your skin extra sensitive and might impact how well your skin handles sugaring.
Additional Tips to Prepare for Your Sugaring Appointment
Want to make your sugaring session as smooth as possible? These extra tips will help you feel comfortable, confident, and ready to go when the day arrives:
Mind Your Timing: Avoid booking during the days leading up to your period when your skin is more sensitive. Instead, aim for mid-cycle for a more comfortable experience.
Dress Comfortably: Wear loose-fitting clothing to prevent irritation or trapped sweat before your session.
Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated and elastic, making sugaring easier.
Relax and Prepare: First-timers can focus on breathing exercises to stay calm—remember, it’s often less painful than waxing!
Arrive Early: Give yourself time to settle in and discuss any concerns with your technician before the appointment starts.
